How Can I Get the Benefits from Molecular Hydrogen?

There are a number of methods of receiving molecular hydrogen gas (H2), including inhalation of H2 gas, injection of H2-rich saline, dropping H2-rich saline into your eyes, taking a bath in H2-rich water, increasing H2 production by intestinal bacteria, topical application, oral ingestion of hydrogen-producing tablets, and simply drinking H2-rich water.

Each one of these methods has a therapeutic effect. Although drinking H2-rich water may not provide as many hydrogen molecules to the body as some other more sophisticated methods, it is probably the easiest way for most people and a very effective approach. In one study using a rat model of Parkinson’s disease, drinking H2-rich water, but not inhaling 2% H2 gas or increasing intestinal H2 production via lactulose administration, was effective. A significant factor with drinking H2-rich water is that it gives an intermittent exposure that stops the body accommodating to a more constant exposure. Another reason that drinking H2-rich water is important is because it allows gastric induction of ghrelin, which is mediated via activation of beta 1 adrenergic receptors.

There are a number of ways to produce H2-rich water, including electrolysis (e.g. water ionizers, or hydrogen specific devices), reaction of water with alkali-earth metals (e.g. magnesium), or simply bubbling H2 gas into water. Many of the ionizer manufacturers don't know how much H2 is produced by their devices which is ultimately the most important factor. Alkaline water ionizers were developed decades before it was known of the therapeutic importance of molecular hydrogen, thus these units were optimized for alkaline pH and not high level dissolved hydrogen concentrations. Typically, at normal flow with normal source water the concentration of H2 from an alkaline water ionizer is around 0.1 ppm to 0.7 ppm.

Supersaturation

There are methods which are capable of producing a super-saturated concentration of molecular hydrogen water at very high concentrations. Not all of these methods alter the pH of the water and some can be used in any beverage of choice. The potential advantage of this method is the ability to ingest large amounts of the H2 molecule without having to drink enormous amounts of water (500 ml vs. 15 litres). Instructions for Taking Active H2 Ultra

Dissolve 1 x tablet of Active H2 Ultra in a 500ml - 1litre water bottle or equivalent size juice bottle. Leave the lid off and the bottle open until the reaction has finished after 5-10 minutes. During this time the tablet produces the Molecular Hydrogen and super-saturates the bottle contents. You will see it bubbling away if you use a clear-sided water bottle.When the reaction has finished then put the lid on tightly to store it. Use cold water and keep cold for best results.

Once the tablet has stopped fizzing you can now drink your super-saturated hydrogen-activated water/juice. Ideally, finish the water within 30 minutes of starting to maximise your molecular hydrogen intake. You can drink your H2-rich water/juice over a longer period but some of the hydrogen will dissipate with time. It is therefore better to dissolve 1 x tablet in a 500ml bottle of water/juice and finish that relatively quickly before moving onto another untreated water bottle to ensure you receive your recommended daily ration of water overall, rather than dissolve a tablet in a single larger bottle of water and drink it over a few hours.
